ces Pays rappelât tous ces Artistes en les Comblants de plusieurs privilèges et franchises pour en relever le lustre, Le Père du Remontrant Daniel Dulcken d’après l’émanation d’une resolution aussi sage, Vint s’établir en ladite Ville d’Anvers en y érigeant Sa fabrique des Clavecins ;
these Countries recalled all these Artists by Filling them with several privileges and franchises to raise their luster, The Father of the Remonstrant Daniel Dulcken after the emanation of such a wise resolution, Came to establish himself in the said City of Antwerp by erecting his Harpsichord factory there;
On l’y reçut également que beaucoup d’autres artistes ensuite des Intentions déclarées et on lui accordât la franchise de la Bourgeoisie dont il a Joui Jusqu’à Sa Mort.
He was also received there, as were many other artists with declared intentions, and he was granted the privilege of the Bourgeoisie, which he enjoyed until his death.
Le Remontrant étant l’ainé des fils dudit Daniel Dulcken s’absentât pendant l’espace de vingt ans, après quel terme il jugeat à propos de S’établir avec Sa Famille à l’Exemple de Son Père en ladite Ville d’Anvers, où il exerce actuellement son Art de Fabriquant des Clavecins et d’orgues Certainement au grand Contentement de Ceux qui possèdent de Ses ouvrages.
The Remonstrant being the eldest of the sons of the said Daniel Dulcken was absent for the space of twenty years, after which term he judged it appropriate to establish himself with his family following the example of his father in the said city of Antwerp, where he currently exercises his art of making harpsichords and organs, certainly to the great satisfaction of those who possess his works.
Or Comme il ne rencontre point dans ladite Ville d’Anvers la même Satisfaction qu’il procure a tout le public qui veut bien l’honorer de sa Confiance par le Système que quelques Artisants ont adopté de Confondre l’Art du Remontrant avec leurs métiers Corps ou Compagnies en voulant l’y Soumettre.
Now, as he does not meet in the said City of Antwerp the same Satisfaction that he procures to all the public who are willing to honor him with their Confidence by the System that some Craftsmen have adopted of Confusing the Art of the Remonstrant with their trades Corps or Companies by wanting to Submit it to them.
Le Remontrant espère que Votre Altesse Royale toujours attentive à voir fleurir et favoriser les Arts daignera réprimer un usage Si abusif et Si Contraire à leur perfection, qu’on veut introduire malgré l’Emanation du Reglement de Sa Majesté du 13 octobre (?) porté à ce Sujet.
The Remonstrant hopes that Your Royal Highness, always attentive to seeing the Arts flourish and promote them, will deign to suppress such an abusive and contrary usage to their perfection, which we want to introduce despite the Emanation of the Regulation of His Majesty of October 13 (?) made on this Subject.
D’autant que l’art qu’il possède pour la facture des Clavecins et des orgues ne peut l’obliger à Se faire membre d’un métier Composé d’Artisants
Especially since the art he possesses for the making of harpsichords and organs cannot oblige him to become a member of a profession composed of craftsmen

qui ne S’entendent en aucune façon à Sa Science, pas même aux ouvrages qui y entrent, non plus qu’aux mesures qu’on doit y observer pour donner à Ses Instruments la juste harmonie et ressonnance qu’ils exigent et qui en font le plus bel ornement.
who do not understand in any way His Science, not even the works which enter into it, nor the measures which must be observed to give His Instruments the right harmony and resonance which they require and which make them the most beautiful ornament.
Cette Considération est de tant de poids que le Remontrant Se flatte qu’elle produira tout l’effet qu’il en attend ; le désir qu’il a de Se faire un nom dans ces Pays le met dans une obligation indispensable de faire tous les ouvrages de Ses instruments par lui-même.
This Consideration is of such weight that the Remonstrant flatters himself that it will produce all the effect he expects from it; the desire he has to make a name for himself in these Countries places him under an indispensable obligation to do all the work of his instruments by himself.
D’Après ceci l’on ne Sait pour quelle raison il devrait dépendre de quelque Corps pour une Chose qui n’est que du ressort de Son Art et qui n’a aucun rapport au métier soit de Menuisier ou d’autres, et pourquoi il devrait être Confondu dans la multiplicité des Artisants dont le Savoir ne peut être mis en paralelle avec Sa Science.
From this it is not known why he should depend on any Body for a Thing which is only within the scope of His Art and which has no relation to the trade of Carpenter or others, and why he should be Confused in the multiplicity of Craftsmen whose Knowledge cannot be put in parallel with His Science.
Il est vrai que Sa fabrique quoique fort éloignée de la Cathegorie de Celle des métiers a besoin des ouvrages méchaniques pour faire parles Ses Instruments et sans ces moyens il ne Serait pas possible de les effectuer.
Il n’est pas moins vrai aussi que tous les métiers ensemble ne pourraient parvenir à leur Construction.
Pourquoi donc, Monseigneur, faudrait-il que cette dans cette Circonstance il en depende ?
It is true that His factory, although far removed from the category of that of trades, requires mechanical works to make His Instruments, and without these means it would not be possible to carry them out.
It is no less true also that all the trades together could not achieve their Construction.
Why then, My Lord, should it be necessary that this in this Circumstance depend on it?

Son Reglement du 13 Octobre 1773 Concernant la peinture, la Sculpture, la Gravure, l’Architecture ainsi que les autres arts libéraux, déclare que tout Artiste doit Se borner à l’exercice de Son art, Sans Se mêler d’ouvrages Méchaniques ou des débits réservés aux Métiers.
Its Regulation of October 13, 1773 Concerning painting, Sculpture, Engraving, Architecture as well as the other liberal arts, declares that every Artist must limit himself to the exercise of his art, without interfering with mechanical works or the services reserved for Trades.
On y répondra que les quatre premières Sciences Susdites peuvent Se passer de la Mechanique, C’est-à-dire que les Artistes qui en font profession ne voudront S’attirer ces objets.
It will be answered that the first four aforementioned Sciences can do without Mechanics, that is to say that the Artists who make a profession of them will not want to attract these objects.
Le Remontrant n’est point dans ce Cas, d’autant qu’il n’y a que ces ressorts qui peuvent faire mouvoir Ses Instruments et que ce n’est que par leur moyen que les Sons Se présentent à l’ouïe.

A quoi Serviraient tous les mouvements et toutes les peines que Cet artisan Se donnerait pour y parvenir ?
However, it does not matter that these works are the responsibility of the carpenters and that the Remonstrant could not interfere with them.
To make this a cause for Conster (?) Could there be a worker or craftsman, whether carpenter or other, who would be enterprising enough to take charge of this work and skilled enough to carry it out, while the Remonstrant would simply remain silent?
What would be the use of all the efforts and all the trouble that this craftsman would take to achieve this?

S’il Se trouverait une Compagnie des fabriquants de Clavecins et d’orgues le Remontrant Se ferait honneur d’y être attaché, mais il Serait inoui de l’entremeler avec des Artisants et Ouvriers qu’on ne pourrait
Everything would be fruitless, the result would only be a crude, confused, and disproportionate work, which could not be used at all.
From which it follows that no one could better bring His Aforesaid Instruments to their execution and perfection than the Remonstrant himself, since His games are not of the category of any craft, His Art being a Separate Science which can only be completed by himself or under His own eyes; consequently independent of any Corporation 5?) whatsoever.
If there were a Company of Harpsichord and Organ Makers, the Remonstrant would be honored to be attached to it, but it would be unheard of to intermix him with Craftsmen and Workers who could not be

Dans ces Circonstances le Remontrant Se flatte que Votre Altesse Royale voudra bien en le Comblant des faveurs qu’elle a accordés aux autres artistes, lui procurer la même franchise de Bourgeoisie dont Son Père a joui dans ladite Ville d4anvers, eû égard aux avantages que Sa fabrique Subministre au Pays en y faisant entrer de l’Etranger annuellement une Somme de plus de 3000 florins et à l’augmentation des espèces de Consommation qui en résulte dans le menage du Remontrant et dans Sa fabrique.
Appear before him, his talents being entirely superior to theirs.
In these circumstances, the Remonstrant flatters himself that Your Royal Highness will, by showering him with the favors that you have granted to other artists, procure for him the same franchise of Citizenship that his Father enjoyed in the said City of Antwerp, in view of the advantages that his factory provides to the Country by bringing in annually from abroad a sum of more than 3,000 florins and the resulting increase in the species of Consumption in the Remonstrant's household and in his factory.

The talents he possesses for the Structure of Harpsichords and organs, by animating them with the most harmonious and varied Sounds, add new strength to his hope, especially since there are none, or very few, who exercise these two Arts together.

It is with the support of these reasons that the Remonstrant hopes that your Royal Highness in His capacity as Protector of the Fine Arts will deign to honor that of the Remonstrant with His beneficent graces and it is in the confidence of feeling the effects that he makes His very humble return to Her,
